The Golden Gavel

An award for outstanding performance in the role of chair of a company board. The aim is to highlight and increase awareness of the crucial role of the chair in efficient, effective and business oriented board work.

The Golden Gavel award was established in 2005 by Deloitte and the Swedish Academy of Directors. The award is presented in association with Fairford Group, Heidrick & Struggles, Roschier and Swedbank. Media partner is Dagens Industri.

About the award
The Golden Gavel is awarded in two categories each year, one for stock exchange listed companies and one for private companies. The nominations are being made in a national nomination process and an award ceremony is held annually at Grand Hôtel in Stockholm in late November/early December. Read more about the Foundation >

Cristina Stenbeck, Kinnevik and Johan Markman, Atteviks Bil named as winners of the 2012 Golden Gavel Awards

The awards were presented by H.R.H. Prince Daniel at a lunch at Stockholm Grand Hôtel on November 28.

Extract from the jury’s announcement – Cristina Stenbeck:

Cristina Stenbeck is an example of a modern company chair, with great commitment and the courage to make changes. She pushes her board to constantly focus on the future and improve the business, always with increased shareholder value as the primary guiding principle.

Extract from the jury’s announcement – Johan Markman:
With his visionary leadership, personal charm and a talent for diplomacy, allied with a wealth of experience from running a family business, Johan Markman has encouraged the board broaden its horizons and dare to think outside the box without losing focus on the company’s long-term value creation. In a well-run family-owned company, a chair who can achieve this is well worth such recognition.
